What we all want to see-?
Everyone knows that the regular season for college football, in a perfect world, would be over by now.
There would be no conference championship in this world. There would instead be the Dec. Bowls, or the NIT of College Football, and the 8 team single elimination tourney including these teams:
Alabama
OU
Texas
Florida
Texas Tech
USC
Utah
Boise State
That is what I assume the majority of the country wants. However, this is not what we have because the governing bodies behind college football do not wish it so.
If Texas Tech beat Texas we have to keep Texas Tech at least 1 place above/below Texas, unless you're saying that the more recent dominance compels more consideration than later victories, in which case you also believe OU to be ranked higher than Texas.
Your theoretical poll is
1. Alabama
2. OU
3. Texas
4. Texas Tech
5. Florida
Although would you switch Florida for more recent wins over T-Tech,
Florida (4). In either case, if Florida beats Ala. would you accredit it's victory more merit than Texas...
than OU?
Recruiting will be hurt for schools who are not in the top 10 regularly because going to bowl games is a big draw. Booster clubs raise a lot of money from fans wanting to go to bowl games as well.
So this system will deprive schools of funding for their athletic department, reduce interest in most programs, and create a more distinct haves and have-nots system that will be more difficult to break into.
Winter madness instead of March madness. Finals could be called the orange bowl. Semi finals the rose and fiest bowl and the other bowls along the way.
