What Do You Do To Calm Your Nerves?
I have to do a debate that's a major part of my grade, and i'll be fine until right when i start speaking in front of the class i get nervous and forget what i'm saying.. so any advise please to calm my nerves right before? thanks :)I know this sounds cheesy, because I got it from Pirates of the Caribbean, but whenever I get stressed out or nervous, I just close my eyes, take a deep breath and pretend like everything is just a dream. You have to try and believe it though.
Don't sweat the small stuff, you won't even care about this speech a week or two from now.you and me the same. i not only forget what to say but i stutter and mumble my words. think of me when you're about to do your debate, someone who is way worse than you are.. so feel better. the only thing i can suggest is to be fully prepared, you can never go wrong if you are. I always find that before giving a speech, or participating in a debate, or acting on stage (I'm in a few theater groups at my University), if I try to disassociate myself from the task at hand, things go better. I'll think about my lines, or read my note cards up until about half an hour before I'm set to speak, but after that I usually try to distract myself. I'll read a paper, eat something, watch tv, whatever helps me to stop thinking about the upcoming event.
When I'm actually speaking, I never look someone in the eye - whether it be someone I'm debating, or the general audience, I always look past them. It can't be obvious - don't look up at the ceiling - but if you look at the person's ear, or even the tip of their nose, it tends to help (at least for me). If I'm acting, then it's fine because the audience is usually in the dark. For a speech to a class or something like that, I usually look over everyone's head, only making eye contact for a few seconds with any individual.
The biggest part is to not think about it. If you know what you're going to say, or know what you're going to read, then don't think, and just let the words flow. The moment you think is the moment you start to stutter and stammer.
Good luck in your debate!I listen to music. I have found this out at my job. I am a cashier and it has been so un nerving at work through thanksgiving that i wired myself with my mp3 player where no one can tell that i am constantly listening to music. i am much better at my job, and in dealing with people... no one has a clue. The most easiest and simplest yet VERY effective solution is eating a banana. No, I'm SO serious try it!!!
It worked for everyone know.....plus I think its proven(newspaper I think...) I take Xanax#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
