Train advice needed please!?

  • Basically I will need to get a train soon (from Rugby to Lichfield) and I will need to get off at Birmingham en route to get on a different train. I haven't got a train since I was a kid so sorry if I sound stupid but can I just go to the station on the day and get a return ticket or must I book online. Also do I have to buy a different ticket in Birmingham or do I just get straight on the train.
    Thanks!

  • Why go via Birmingham?
There are direct trains from Rugby to Lichfield Trent Valley.
Admittedly it's not that frequent a service, about one every 3 hours, but the journey time is only about 25 mins, compared with getting on for 2 hours via Birmingham, so it's not such a huge inconvenience once that is taken into account.

  • you can do either, when u buy online or at the train station you can buy tickets for all trains there just explain it to them at the train station or go to a ticket website and put in something like Rugby to Birmingham then Birmingham to Lichfield, it'll most likely be cheaper to buy online and in advance

  • You can try and book in advance to get a cheaper ticket but if not then yes you can just buy it on the day.

If the ticket is from Rugby to Lichfield then you wont need to get anoher ticket :D

  • You can buy your tickets on either the day of travel or in Advance, theres no benefit as such to booking in advance as a lot of these trains have non reservable seats and there is certainly no benefit to the price.

All levels of tickets on that journey have a breakable outward and return portion so you can get on and off at each of the stations on the way if you wanted so long as you reach your destination by the end of the day(the end of the day is 0200 on the rail sadly lol).

    Have a good day out
    Regards
    Mc

  • You can buy your ticket at the station. For longer journeys, it is often cheaper to buy your ticket in advance. Try http://www.thetrainline.com

  • You can buy your ticket at the station but you should
book before as you will save a lot of money. And if you state your destination at the time of buying you will be able to get a through ticket. Go to www.thetrainline.com, or phone 08704111111. You can reserve seats and even ask for specific seats e.g. forward facing, window etc. You can also phone National Rail services on 08457484950 for ticket prices and journey planning.

There are various ticket options including advance tickets, apex returns etc which are good value.
Also try never to wait until you are on the train to buy tickets as you will have to pay full fare and if there is no conductor on board you may have to pay excess fare.

    Hope that helps,

  • Yep, get it at station

  • You can book online in advance and save money. Also, you don't need to buy two separate tickets, just get a return ticket between Rugby and Lichfield.
I would recommend using National Rail Enquiries who compare all the train companies. The Trainline is also good.
